Can you change your political party affiliation to a party that is not official yet?

I am asking this because in Louisiana, to be able to create a new official party, there has to be at least 1,000 people affiliated with the party you are trying to officially form. So I ume that its ok to change ones party affiliation to a party name that does not officially exist yet. Please clarify if you have any info that might help.
